SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University men's and women's track and field teams recorded 10 wins at the SSU Duals at Theodore A. Wright Stadium Saturday with four seniors winning events on Senior Day.
The men's track team recorded three wins with
Cameron Pack winning the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:15.36, freshman
Ermias Tewolde winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:59.50 and senior
Morgan Ellis-Foster winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.97.
The men's field team recorded two wins after senior
LaRon James winning the long jump with 7.21 meters (23-8) and
Malik Franklin winning the long jump with a jump of 15.03 meters (49-3.75).
The women's track team won two events with freshman Oneilla Fuller winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.22 and freshman
Jaylen Sewell winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.06.
The women's field team recorded three wins after senior
Kourtney Sizemore winning the pole vault with a distance of 3.20 meters (10-6), junior Kanani Lodge winning the shot put with a throw of 11.02 meters (36-2) and junior
Faith Shears winning the discus throw with a distance of 34.74 meters (113-11).
On the men's track team, freshman
Carlous Bartee finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.18, followed by Mark'Anthony Sharpe's fourth place finish with a time of 11.31 and freshman Ismail Abdual finished ninth with a time of 11.92.
Sharpe led the way in the 200-meter dash with a third-place finish with a time of 22.56, while Bartee finished fifth with a time of 22.81 and Savannah State's 4x100-meter relay team of Bartee, Ellis-Foster, Franklin and junior
Nigel Brown finished second with a time of 42.55.
On the men's field team, Franklin finished second behind teammate James in the long jump with a distance of 7.10 meters (23-3.5) and sophomore
Markendy Pierre finished seventh with a jump of 1.35 meters (4-5.25).
On the women's track team, freshman
Autumn Brown finished eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.73, while freshman
Carlandra Jones finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.13 and Brown finished seventh with a time of 28.04.
Jones finished second behind teammate Fuller in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.41, while sophomore
Danielle Derricho finished second behind teammate Sewell in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.16 and Savannah State's 4x100-meter relay team of Fuller, Jones, Sewell and Brown finished second with a time of 48.78.
On the women's field team, freshman Tyran Chenault finished second in the high jump with a jump of 1.48 meters (4-10.25), while freshman Krystal Francis finished second in the pole vault behind teammate Sizemore with a distance of 1.98 meters (6-6).
Junior
Tyneshia Quarterman finished second in the shot put behind teammate Lodge with a throw of 9.72 meters (31-10.75), while Lodge finished fifth in the discus throw with a throw of 28.01 meters (91-10) and finished fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 28.19 meters (92-6).
Lodge finished seventh in the javelin throw with a distance of 23.00 meters (75-5), followed by Shears' ninth place finish with a throw of 22.44 meters (72-7) and freshman Salma Gonzalez finished 10
th with a throw of 22.36 meters (73-4).
The women's team defeated The Citadel 62-57, while the Lady Tigers fell to South Carolina State 66-50 in the dual matchup, and the men's team fell to South Carolina State 71-41 and to The Citadel 95-54.
The men's and women's track and field team continue the season at the USC Open next weekend on Saturday, April 21 in Columbia, S.C.
