GREENSBORO, N.C. – Savannah State University men's and women's track and field teams recorded six top-five finishes on the final day of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship Saturday.
The men's track team recorded four top-five finishes. Sophomore
Nigel Brown finished fifth in the 200-meter dash finals with a time of 21.35 after finishing fifth with a time of 21.18 in the preliminary round Thursday, while freshman
Abbas Abbkar finished fourth in the 800-meter run finals with a time of 1:51.59 after setting the school record of 1:51.39 Friday.
Sophomore
Morgan Ellis-Foster finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles finals with a time of 52.58 after finishing eighth in the preliminary round with a time of 52.76 Thursday to grab the final spot in the finals, while Savannah State's 4x400-meter relay team of senior
Justin Leggett, Ellis-Foster, Brown and junior
Donterious Copeland finished fifth with a time of 3:12.11.
Men's field team recorded one top-five finish. Junior
Malik Franklin finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.28 meters (46-10.25), followed by junior
Robert Simmons' seventh place finish with a jump of 13.59 meters (44-11).
The women's field team recorded the last top-five finish with junior
Kourtney Sizemore's fifth place finish with a time of 2.99 meters (9-9.75).
The women's track team recorded three top-10 finishes. Sophomore
Tyneshia Quarterman finished eighth in the 400-meter dash finals with a time of 58.91 after finishing eighth in the preliminary round with a time of 55.54, while freshman
Iycis Hammond finished 10
th in the 400-meter hurdles finals with a time of 1:04.73 after setting the school record with a six-place finish with a time of 1:01.67. Savannah State's 4x100-meter relay team of freshman
Jada Morgan, Quarterman, Hammond and freshman
Cayla William finished eighth with a time of 47.17.
Other women's field team results include freshman
Bryshea Jackson's eighth place in the triple jump with a jump of 11.55 meters (37-10.75).
Other men's track results include
Cameron Pack's 14
th finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:17.59.
The men's track and field teams finished eighth with 43 points, while the women's track and field teams finished 13
th with 6.50 points.
The men's and women's track and field teams travel back to Greensboro for the Aggie Last Chance on Sunday, May 14.
