GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman
Iycis Hammond of the Savannah State University women's track team set the school record with a 1:01.67 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish sixth in the preliminary round to qualify for the finals on day one of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Hammond beat the previous school record of 1:01.9 set by Candice Mangault in 2005.
On the men's track team, sophomore
Morgan Ellis-Foster qualified for the finals after finishing eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.76, while sophomore
Nigel Brown qualified for the finals after a fifth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.18. Senior
Justin Leggett finished 12
th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.64.
On the men's field team, freshman Konin Assinzo finished 11
th in the discus throw with a throw of 40.85 (134-00).
On the women's track team, freshman
Jada Morgan finished 24
th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.76.
On the women's field team, freshman
Faith Shears finished ninth in the discus throw with a throw of 38.83 meters (127-05).
Day two of the MEAC Championship continue Friday, while the final day of the championship finishes Saturday.
