Hendrix Sets School Record as WBB Falls to Georgia Southern 50-45 Thursday

Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior guard Kenyata Hendrix's three-pointer in the first quarter gave her 154 career made 3-pointers to set the school record in the Division I era as Savannah State University women's basketball team (2-5) fell to Georgia Southern University (3-5) 50-45 in Tiger Arena Thursday night.
 
Hendrix totaled three three-pointers made in the game to give her 156 career made 3-point field goals and recorded 13 points, four rebounds and two assists, while graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss recorded her first double-double as a Tiger with 17 points and 11 rebounds. 
 
Junior guard Aiyannah Peal added seven points and seven rebounds, while senior forward Jeremica Edwards added eight rebounds and four points. 
 
After two Georgia Southern free throws to begin the game as GS took a 2-0 with 8:16 remaining in the first quarter, the Lady Tigers scored eight of the next 10 points to take a four-point lead, 8-4, with 5:20 remaining in the quarter. The Eagles scored eight of the final 10 points to take a two-point lead, 12-10, after one quarter.
 
Georgia Southern scored 10 of the first 12 points to increase its lead to 10 points, 22-12, with 5:37 remaining in the second quarter, but after a layup by senior center Tiyonda Davis cut the lead to eight points, 22-14, with 5:12 remaining in the first half.  The Eagles scored the final six points of the half to increase their lead to 14 points, 28-14, at halftime.
 
The Tigers scored 10 of the first 14 points of the third quarter to cut the lead to eight points, 32-24, with 4:17 remaining in the quarter, but Georgia Southern scored seven of the next nine points to take a 13-point lead, 39-26, after three quarters.
 
Georgia Southern scored five of the first nine points to increase its lead to 14 points, 44-30, with 6:41 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored 15 of the final 21 points to cut the final deficit to five points.
 
The Eagles were led by Sierra Butler with 20 points and with nine rebounds, while Alexis Foulks added eight points and Patrice Butler added seven points and six rebounds.
 
The Lady Tigers finish the three-game homestand with Jacksonville State University Saturday at 4 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
