WBB Falls to Iowa State 74-51 in Ames

AMES, Iowa – Graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss and senior center Tiyonda Davis combined for 25 points as Savannah State University women's basketball team (2-2) fell to Iowa State University (4-0) 74-51 in Holton Coliseum Tuesday night.
 
Davis scored 12 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the floor and added four rebounds and three blocks, while Moss led the team with 13 points, including eight in the final quarter, and added three assists.  Davis' 12 points gives her 719 career points, which moves her into ninth most in school history in the Division I era.
 
Senior forward Jeremica Edwards led the team with nine rebounds and added six points, two assists and two blocks and senior guard Kenyata Hendrix added nine points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals.
 
Iowa State scored the first 11 points of the game to capture an 11-0 lead with 7:30 to go in the first quarter, but Savannah State cut the lead to single digits by scoring five of the next eight points to close within nine points, 14-5, after a quarter of play.
 
The Cyclones scored the first five points in the second quarter to take a 14-point lead, 19-5, with 6:32 remaining in the quarter, but a sophomore guard Deyja Brown's three-point cut the lead to 11 points, 19-8, with 6:32 left in the first half.  ISU scored 18 of the final 22 points to take a 25-point lead, 37-12, into halftime.
 
Iowa State scored seven of the first nine points in the third quarter to extend its lead to 30, 44-14, with 7:13 remaining in the quarter and scored 17 of the next 29 points to take a 35-point lead, 61-26, with 34 seconds left.  Hendrix's three-pointer cut the lead to 32, 61-29, after three quarters.
 
Savannah State scored 14 of the next 17 points of the final quarter to cut the lead to 21 points, 64-43, with 4:23 remaining in the quarter. ISU outscored SSU 10-8 during the rest of the quarter to capture the 23-point win.
 
The Cyclones were led by Seanna Johnson with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Bridget Carleton added 11 points and five rebounds. 
 
The Lady Tigers finish the two-game roadstand with Kennesaw State University Saturday at noon in Kennesaw, Ga.
