Track and Field Set New Records At UNF Twilight

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Savannah State men's and women's track and field continued the spring season with a record setting appearance at the University of North Florida Twilight.  
 
SSU freshman Kourtney Sizemore set a new school record, and a personal best, in the women's pole vault competition with a mark of 3.20 meters, finishing 7th in the event. Sizemore and teammate Alysia Potts set the previous record at this year's Tiger Twilight, both clearing 3.18m.
 
At UNF, Potts finished 10th with a 3.05m jump in the pole vault. Elsewhere in women's field events, newcomer Miara Elmore set a new personal best record in the triple jump with a distance of 11.04m, finishing in 10th place.
 
In men's track, senior Cameron Hall finished second in the 110m hurdles with a personal best time of 13.76. Hall is a three-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) hurdles champion.
 
Senior Lemaar Shakir ran a 14.77 in the same event, finishing 9th. Behind Shakir was teammates Randy Thomas (15.51) and Johvonte Singleton (16.54).
 
Michael Smith set a new personal best in the 800m run with a time of 2:01.08. Corey Jones ran a 1:56.36 in the same event for an 11th place finish.
 
Justin Leggett ran a 10.75 to finish 12th in the 100m dash. In the 400m, freshman Elijah West ran a 52.38.
 
The men's relay team of Leggett, Donterious Copeland, Hall and Shakir finished 4th in the 4x100m with a time of 41.65.
 
In women's track events, Jaymi White finished 12th in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.86. Last week's MEAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week Asea Gilmore ran a 2:16.00 in the 800m to finish 8th.  
 
White finished 6th in the long jump with a distance of 5.45m. Elmore finished the same event in 14th place with a jump of 4.87m.
 
Dual-sport athlete Connor Christian finished 6th in the men's shot put with a throw of 13.18m. Dolphurs Hayes finished 2nd in the men's pole vault with a distance of 4.55m. Copeland finished 7th in the triple jump with a 14.38m.
 
Savannah State men's and women's outdoor track and field continue the 2015 season with the historic Penn Relays on April 22 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
