SMYRNA, Del.- The Savannah State University men's and women's cross country teams placed 10th and 13th respectively at the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship meet, held at the Delaware State University Outreach and Research Center.

Freshman
Corey Jones led the Tigers with a 31st place finish. The Richmond Hill, Georgia native completed the 8k race in 29:48.60. Freshman
Kenneth Nealy was 38th with a time of 30:29.70 followed by
Micah Richards who was 50th,
Michael Smith who was 61st and junior
Brandon Davis who finished 67th.

Richards had a time of 31:27.60, Smith had a time of 32:41.30 while Davis reached the finish line in 32 minutes, 41.30 seconds.

There were 75 runners in the race.

Maryland-Eastern Shore won the men's championship and UMES sophomore Khali Rmidi Kinini was the individual winner with a time of 25:53.60.

Senior Asea Mayfield was the top runner for the SSU women. Of the 87 runners, Mayfield was 49th with a time of 21:45.20. Freshman
Kourtney Sizemore finished the 5k race with a time of 23:31.70 which was good enough for 67th place. Rounding out the SSU women were
Alysia Potts (81st),
Ashley Goss (85th) and Kacie Wimpye (86th).

Potts had a time of 29:49.20, Goss had a time of 28:08.70 while Wimpye was timed at 28:37.70.

Florida A&M won the women's team championship while UMES freshman Barbora Blahutova was the top individual finisher with a run of 18:37.30.
