“There were some proud moments and sometimes you have to take baby steps. We will watch the film, but there were some things we saw that we were proud of. Our kids fought. We wanted to play until there were three zeroes on the clock. I think for the most part we did that. People will look at the score of the game, and I know that quote might be hard to believe. They are pretty good. They will have just as good of a season this year as they had last year,” stated SSU head coach Steve Davenport.
Joseph Randle ran for 107 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Cowboys while Desmond Roland had 104 yards and three touchdowns. Walsh passed for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Wes Lunt threw for 129 yards as he completed all 11 passing attempts. Hays had eight receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown while Nico Ornelas had five tackles for the defense.
As a team, SSU had 139 yards of offense while the Cowboys had 682.

“Our number one goal was not to win either of these games. Our goal is to win the conference championship. We have got another preseason game in Tallahassee next week then our season gets underway. That is where we are,” said Davenport.
