Savannah, Ga. -- The Savannah State football team held their second and final scrimmage of the preseason at the SSU practice field.
Junior quarterback A.J. DeFilippis completed 13-of-24 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns while
Derek Williams kicked a pair of 23-yard field goals and four extra points.
After their first two possessions ended with a punt and a fumble, freshman running back
Sheldon Barnes scored on a 17-yard run to start the scoring to cap a 6-play, 70-yard drive.
The Tiger offense turned the ball over on their next possesion but was able to get a field goal on their next drive.
The defense forced the offense to turn the ball over on a possession and then recovered a fumble before giving up another field goal.
DeFilippis tossed a 9-yard touchdown to freshman wideout Brian Lackey and then threw a 30-yard touchdown to senior running back
Justin Babb.
The scoring ended with DeFilippis scoring on a 5-yard run.
During their last three possessions, the offense scored three touchdown but also threw an interception, turned the ball over on downs and missed a field goal.
Barnes led all runners with 78 yards and a touchdown which included a 58-yard run while Babb added 62 yards and sophomore Antonio Procter gained 58 yards on 8 carries.
Backup quarterback Antonio Bostic was 5-of-7 for 81 yards.
Babb caught five passes for 40 yards and a touchdown while Lackey hauled in three passes for 61 yards and a score.
The offense had 415 yards but also had 11 penalties for 59 yards.
Michael Kuku and
Broderic Sellers each had four tackles for the defense while eight players collected three tackles apiece.
John Wilson forced a fumble while Jaquan Trammell recovered a fumble.
Richie Rucker intercepted a pass, Darien Hunter had three pass breakups while Kuku and Vince Cochran each had a sack.
