Dalpias, Mickey Named Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers

SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State University Athletics Department announces the hiring of Melanie Rose Dalpias, ATC and Renee Candace Mickey as graduate assistant athletic trainers.

 

“I am very excited to have two more staff members this year,” stated SSU head athletics trainer Ken Tessier, ATC, LAT. “It really saves myself and Steve Ciolino a lot of time and gives the kids better quality and better healthcare.”

 

Dalpias earned her undergraduate degree in athletic training and a minor in health from Graceland University in 2007 while Mickey received her bachelor of science degree in athletic training and a minor in coaching from North Carolina-Pembroke in 2009.

 

“Both  bring a wide range of knowledge from where they were previously. I am glad to see our sports medicine program develop the way it has this year,” said Tessier.

 

A native of Ogden, Utah, Dalpias comes to SSU from Varsity, Inc. where she was employed since 2007. She also spent the past two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the women's soccer team at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. Dalpias also served as the assistant athletic trainer for the softball team at Culver-Stocken College in Canton, Mississippi in 2008. While at Illinois State, she studied kinesiology and recreation with a focus in athletic training.

 

Dapias is certified by the American Red Cross and the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).

 

Mickey has an associates of arts degree in college transfer from Robeson Community College in Lumberton, NC, which she earned in 2006.

 

While attending UNC-Pembroke she worked with various athletic teams on the campus. In 2008-09, she was a senior athletic trainer student with the women's soccer, wrestling and spring football teams. She also worked with the Arthur J. Robinson Medical Clinic. In 2007-08, she was a junior athletic training student and worked with the football and baseball teams. She also worked at Allen's Orthopedic. In 2006, Mickey was a sophomore athletic training student and worked with women's basketball, baseball and softball.

 

Mickey is certified in basic First Aid and in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. She is a member of the Athletic Training Student Association (ATSA), NATA, North Carolina Athletic Training Association (NCATA) and the Mid-Southeastern Athletic Training Association (MSATA).
