Hoyas Down Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Jason Clark scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures as 19th ranked Georgetown defeated Savannah State 63-44 in Tiger Arena before a crowd of 3,176.

SSU (2-2) suffered its first loss at home since last season.

Clark shot 5-for-9 from the field and hit 4-of-6 3-point attempts.

Savannah State scored the first seven points of the game before the Hoyas woke up and went on a 21-4 surge to take a 10-point lead with 8:56 remaining.

Darius Baugh buried a 3-pointer and a jumper for the Tigers to cut their deficit to 21-16 with 6:44 on the clock but Georgetown finished the half with a 13-4 run to take a 34-20 lead into the locker room.

Clark scored 12 of his points in the opening half while the Hoyas shot 58.3 percent from the field and hit six 3-pointers.

A jumper by Patrick Hardy cut SSU's deficit to 13 early in the second half but the Hoyas responded with a 13-5 run that gave them a 50-29 advantage with 9:49 left.

Georgetown had their largest lead of the afternoon of 58-36 after a Henry Sims dunk with 3:50 left.

SSU was not able to get any closer than 18 points the rest of the way as they were held without a field goal the final 3:16.

Baugh came off the bench to spark Savannah State with 10 points. Tracy Rankins added nine points.

Greg Monroe scored 13 point and grabbed seven rebounds for the Hoyas (3-1). Austin Freeman added 12 points and Chris Wright scored 12 and dished out four assists.

Every Georgetown player that played scored at least one point.

Georgetown shot 53.1 percent from the floor and hit 53.8 percent of their 3-point shots.

SSU, which dropped their second straight, was out-rebounded 40 to 24 and shot 27.1 percent from the floor.
